Shri Ram Chalisa 40 verses in Hindi with English Translation

Here is the English translation of the Shri Ram Chalisa:

**|| Doha ||**

In the beginning, Lord Ram’s journey to the forest, defeating the golden deer,

Sita’s abduction, Jatayu’s death, meeting Sugriva,

conversations with Hanuman, building the bridge, burning Lanka,

subsequently seeing Ravana, killing Kumbhakarna,

all these comprise the epic Ramayana.

**|| Chaupai ||**

O beloved devotee of Lord Raghubeer,

Please listen to our prayer, O Lord!

Whoever meditates day and night,

becomes a devoted devotee.

Meditating on Lord Shiva in the mind,

even Brahma and Indra cannot reach your glory.

Victory, victory, victory to the compassionate Lord Raghunath,

always protect your devotees, O Lord!

You are the brave messenger Hanuman,

whose influence is known in all three worlds.

With your powerful mace,

you killed Ravana and protected the Devas.

You are the Lord of the helpless,

always supporting the needy.

Brahma and others cannot reach your limit,

they always sing your praises.

The four Vedas are your witnesses,

you protect the honor of your devotees.

Sharada sings your virtues with joy,

even the king of Devas cannot reach your limit. (10)

Whoever takes your name,

becomes blessed and never faces lack.

The name of Ram is infinite,

it calls out in all four Vedas.

Ganapati chants your name,

you are worshipped first by all.

Those who constantly recite your name,

bear the burden on their heads like a crown.

Like a flower bearing its weight,

no one can cross your limit.

Bharat chants your name in his heart,

he never loses in any battle.

Your name illuminates the hearts of your enemies,

remembering it destroys enemies.

Your command is like a thunderbolt,

always protecting your devotees.

No one can defeat you in battle,

even the powerful Yama wonders who you are.

You incarnated as Maha Lakshmi,

eliminating all sins with your ways. (20)

Sita chanted your name with purity,

she displayed her divine power.

When she set her foot down,

the moon felt shy seeing her.

She used to touch your feet daily,

finding new treasures at your feet.

You fulfill eighteen types of auspiciousness,

devotees sacrifice themselves for you.

You created many divine powers,

you made Sita the queen.

The whole universe is in your control,

it doesn’t take a moment for you to create.

Whoever remembers you with devotion,

attains liberation.

Listen, O Ram, you are our protector,

Bharat spreads your glory far and wide.

You are our family deity,

you are our beloved Guru Deva.

Whatever exists is because of you,

victory, victory, victory to you, protect our honor! (30)

Ram, you nourish our souls,

victory, victory, victory to the beloved of Dasharath!

Victory, victory, victory to the embodiment of light,

the formless and infinite Brahman.

Truth, truth, victory to the Lord of truth,

eternal, eternal, inner controller.

Those who sing your pure praises,

certainly attain all four goals.

Taking an oath in Gauri’s name,

you granted all boons to your devotees.

Knowledge, you are the form of knowledge,

I bow to you, O Lord of Japa.

Blessed, blessed are you, O mighty one,

your name eradicates all suffering.

The divine beings sing your praises,

the drums and conches sound.

Truth, truth, you are eternal truth,

you are our body, mind, and wealth.

Whoever recites your name,

their heart becomes illuminated. (40)

All doubts are dispelled by your arrival,

my Lord, I believe in your truthful words.

Whatever desires one harbors in the mind,

offer Tulsi leaves and flowers to you.

Offering fruits and leaves,

a person attains all Siddhis.

In the end, one reaches the abode of Lord Ram,

where birth is called devotion to Hari.

Shri Hari Das says and sings,

such a soul attains the divine abode, Vaikuntha.

This hymn praises the virtues and deeds of Lord Hanuman, an ardent devotee of Lord Ram and is chanted by devotees seeking his divine blessings and protection.
