KRISHNA DIVINE ENERGY OF 8 ELEMENTS IN BHAGWAD GEETA

Verse 7.4 (Bhagavad Gita 7.4): “भूमिरापोऽनलो वायुः खं मनो बुद्धिरेव च। अहङ्कार इतीयं मे भिन्ना प्रकृतिरष्टधा।।”Transliteration: “Bhūmir āpo’nalo vāyuḥ khaṁ mano buddhir eva ca Ahaṅkāra itīyaṁ me bhinnā prakṛtir aṣṭadhā.”

In this verse, Lord Krishna reveals a profound understanding of the material world and its relationship to the divine. He explains that the entire material creation, consisting of eight fundamental elements, is His divine energy. Lord Krishna is explaining the eightfold division of His divine energy (prakriti), which constitutes the material world. He lists the eight fundamental elements that make up the material creation:

Anala (Fire): This represents the element of fire, which includes not only flames but also the heat and energy produced by fire.

Vayu (Air): This signifies the element of air, including the atmosphere and the vital force that sustains life.

Kham (Ether or Space): Ether, also called space, is the element that provides the space for all other elements to exist. It is the subtlest of the elements.

Krishna explains that all these eight elements are His separated material energies, and they constitute the diverse aspects of the material world. By listing these elements, He is emphasizing His omnipresence and the fact that everything in the material world ultimately arises from and is sustained by Him.

Krishna’s profound revelation in this verse is that all these elements, which constitute the entire material creation, are His separated energy. He is the source and sustainer of the material world, and everything within it emanates from Him.By explaining the divine nature of these elements, Krishna invites us to recognize the presence of the divine energy in the material world. This teaching underscores the interconnectedness of all existence and emphasizes that recognizing the divine in everything is a step toward spiritual realization and union with the Supreme.

This verse serves to illustrate the relationship between the divine and the material world, highlighting that the material world is an expression of the divine’s energy and power.
